The Jury Court of the Provincial Court holds from Monday the trial against a woman for allegedly causing a fire in a house where two elderly people she was taking care of were sleeping in Ibiza.
This tragic event occurred in August 2023 in a house in ses Païsses in Sant Antoni.
She is charged with one count of murder of a 77-year-old man and one count of arson and the prosecution requests that she be sentenced to permanent reviewable imprisonment.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, at the time of the events one of the elderly was a totally dependent person, was unable to leave the property and died.
According to the prosecution, the accused Spanish woman – in prison since August 11, 2023 – went to the garage of the home,“piled a number of cushions next to the car in the garage and lit the cushions on fire, then left the home and let the flames spread.”
The woman could receive a permanent revisable prison sentence for the crime of murder of a particularly vulnerable person due to disability. For its part, the Prosecutor’s Office also asks for an indemnity to the spouse of the deceased with 86,484.01 euros and to their three children with 62,268.49 euros for each one, which would add up to a total amount of 273,289.48 euros.
At 9:30 a.m. the jury will be constituted, after which the public hearing will begin, starting with the reading of the parties’ pleadings and the presentation of evidence. Throughout the week, witness and expert evidence will be heard. The trial will continue the following week.
