The bay of Portmany is in a state of alert after registering a second violent robbery in the space of barely a week. In both cases, the perpetrators are at least two hooded individuals who attacked elderly people in their homes, used physical violence and acted with premeditation.
The events occurred in nearby areas in the municipalities of Sant Antoni and Sant Josep, which has raised concern among residents and authorities. In addition, the time of each attack has also coincided.
Indications are that it could be the same criminal group, although no arrests have been made so far and investigations are still ongoing.
Two attacks with similar patterns
The first robbery took place on October 27 in Menéndez Pidal street, within the urban center of Sant Antoni.
The victim, a woman about 65 years old, had just finished teaching remedial classes in a house and was alone when two men with balaclavas burst into the place, as advanced this morning Diario de Ibiza.
The assailants pushed her inside, bound her with cable ties, gagged her and beat her repeatedly to force her to hand over her jewelry and cash.
After obtaining the loot, they fled without being intercepted. The victim had to be attended by the health services, and the Guardia Civil took over the investigation, which is still ongoing.
From the City Council of Sant Antoni have detailed to La Voz de Ibiza that the Local Police “has proceeded to reinforce the presence of patrols in the area with the aim of collaborating in the identification of possible perpetrators and strengthen public safety in the municipality”.
Second round in Cala de Bou one week later
The second episode occurred on Tuesday, November 4, shortly before eight o’clock in the evening, in a house located on Salamanca street in Cala de Bou, in the municipality of Sant Josep.
At the time, three people were at home : a 74-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man.
At least two hooded individuals, one of them dressed completely in black and with his face covered, entered the house and attempted to commit a robbery.
The intrusion generated a dispute and the aggressors ended up fleeing without carrying out the assault, although two of the victims were injured and were taken to the Can Misses Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the scene caused great commotion among the neighbors, who witnessed part of the events. The Guardia Civil is also investigating this case, but so far has not been able to identify those responsible.
