Formentera showed its tastiest and most sustainable side this Wednesday in London. As part of the World Travel Market (WTM), one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, the island presented the project “De Formentera con mucho gusto”, an initiative of the Consell Insular and PYME Formentera that seeks to connect the countryside, business and tourism through the local product.
The program aims to reinforce a tourism model that is more respectful of the territory, identity and local cuisine. Its symbol is a distinctive seal that recognizes restaurants that are committed to local ingredients, and that visitors can identify both on the menus and in the establishments themselves.
Experiences that go from the field to the table
“De Formentera con mucho gusto” also includes guided tours of local farms, such as the Terramoll and Es Cap de Barbaria wineries, or the island’s olive tree plantation. The activities, held during the summer, have had a remarkable response from the public.
The proposal is completed with promotional videos and traditional recipes starring chefs from the island, available on the web www.formenteraambmoldegust.com.
“We don’t want to grow more, we want to grow better.”
During the presentation, which took place at the stand of the Balearic Islands, the president of the Consell de Formentera, Óscar Portas, defined the project as “a philosophy of territory”. “We want to show that Formentera is not only visited, but lived and tasted. We are committed to simplicity, authenticity and our people. We do not want to grow more, but to grow better,” he said.
Portas also highlighted the role of Formentera as a creative setting, within the framework of the Spain Film Festival and its collaboration with the Spain Film Commission, recalling how the island continues to inspire cinema more than twenty years after Lucía y el sexo.
Formentera, on the radar of the British market
The day in London also served to hold meetings with tour operators and travel agencies such as EasyJet, Jet2, Jet2 Holidays and ABTA, the British association that brings together the country’s main tour operators and agencies.
The goal: to continue positioning Formentera as a destination that combines nature, gastronomy and authenticity, without losing sight of quality and sustainability.
