Macro drug trafficking operation in Ibiza: what the searches revealed and what comes next

The operation against drug trafficking developed this Tuesday in several points of Ibiza is still open, and the authorities do not rule out new arrests in the coming days. Although five people have already been arrested, the evidence gathered in the searches suggests that the investigation is still ongoing and may be extended.

More than 100 agents of the National Police, Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance participated in a macro operation deployed simultaneously in several municipalities of the island, including Ibiza city, Sant Josep, Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària.

During the searches, narcotic substances, cash, documentation and a weapon were seized, according to sources close to the case.

The operation, framed within an investigation for drug trafficking and money laundering, was authorized by the Court of Instruction number 3 of Ibiza, which decreed the secrecy of summary to protect the progress of the investigations. The actions lasted from the early hours of the morning until well into the day, with the participation of dogs specialized in drug and currency detection.

In one of the interventions in Sant Rafel, the agents inspected a house and its garden, where they found numerous drums, suspicious waste and material allegedly linked to drug trafficking. One of the five detainees was arrested at that point.

Investigators believe that this is a structured network with the capacity to distribute drugs on a large scale and manage economic operations aimed at laundering the illicitly obtained money.

So far, neither the National Police nor the Civil Guard have offered more details of the case, appealing to the confidentiality of the proceedings. However, they have confirmed that the operation is still open and that further actions are not ruled out in the coming days, both in the form of searches and arrests.
