More than a hundred agents of the Civil Guard, the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service (SVA) of the Tax Agency are developing this Tuesday an important anti-drug operation on the island of Ibiza, in the framework of an investigation related to drug trafficking that remains under secret summary. For the moment, the provisional balance of the proceedings is five people arrested, although official sources do not rule out the possibility of further apprehensions throughout the day, as the operation remains open.
The operation was activated early in the day and included the simultaneous entry into several homes with the aim of locating narcotic substances and material linked to criminal activity.
Searches in several municipalities of the island
According to the Guardia Civil, the searches are being carried out in different parts of the island, specifically in the municipalities of Ibiza, Santa Eulària des Riu, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Josep de sa Talaia. The action was carried out in a coordinated manner and with a large police deployment to ensure security during the interventions.
Dozens of officers have simultaneously raided the homes under investigation, a common action in this type of operation to prevent the destruction of evidence or the escape of suspects.
Participation of specialized units
Agents from the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) and the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of the National Police, together with members of the Civil Guard and officers from the Customs Surveillance Service, specialized in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, are participating in the operation.
