The prestigious international Green Key certification has recognized Mondrian Ibiza and Hyde Ibiza, making them two of only three hotels on the island to obtain this distinction. The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awards this seal to tourist establishments that meet strict environmental criteria and demonstrate a real commitment to sustainability.
Since Cala Llonga, both hotels have integrated responsible practices into every aspect of the guest experience: from architectural design and energy efficiency, to waste management, use of local products and team training. Criteria range from internal environmental management and resource savings to staff involvement, guest information and engagement with the local community. It is a rigorous process that includes regular audits and continuous improvement.
Commitment to the environment and the community of Cala Llonga
Obtaining the Green Key seal not only responds to an environmental philosophy, but also to specific actions that reflect an active commitment to the community and the natural environment of Ibiza. These include support for events organized by cancer associations in Ibiza and Formentera, as well as collaboration with the Cala Llonga neighborhood association in initiatives that benefit the neighborhood and its residents.
In addition, the hotels promote environmental awareness programs among guests and employees, offering information on protected species, local flora and fauna, and the island’s natural areas.
At the operational level, they have made progress towards more sustainable management by installing solar panels, replacing lighting fixtures with LED and low-consumption systems, increasing recycling -which has earned them recognition from the City Council for its high rate- and the continuous promotion of good practices through informative digital materials.
“Every drop counts”
This recognition reaffirms Mondrian and Hyde Ibiza’s position as pioneers in sustainable tourism on the island, consolidating Cala Llonga as a benchmark for travelers seeking more conscious and environmentally friendly experiences.
As Nora Pujol, Sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Leader at both hotels, with more than two decades of experience in Cala Llonga properties, underlines: “Water is the most valuable natural resource we have in Ibiza. Living on an island makes it even more critical: our supply is limited and every drop counts. By saving water, we not only reduce waste, but also ensure that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty that makes Ibiza unique.”
With this certification, Mondrian and Hyde Ibiza reinforce their commitment to a sustainable tourism model, demonstrating that luxury and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand to build a greener future for the island.
