The prosecutor in the case of the deadly fire that occurred in ses Païsses (Ibiza) has ratified this Monday her request for permanent revisable prison for the woman accused of causing the fire in which one of the elderly she cared for died. In his final report before the Court of the Jury of the Provincial Court, he argued that “all indications” clearly point to the guilt of the accused.
During her speech, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the jury for a guilty verdict, linking about twenty indications that, in her opinion, place the woman as the author of a crime of arson and murder with the intention of ending the life of the victim.
Key recordings and a “prepared” alibi
The prosecutor especially stressed the importance of the security camera recordings, which show the defendant’s route from her home to the house where the fire occurred during the early morning of August 3, 2023. She also questioned the woman’s version, assuring that during her statement “she has tried to prepare an alibi” to justify her presence and her movements that night.
“We have many indications and an implausible explanation, so we understand that the logical conclusion is guilt,” said the prosecutor, who defended that it was “crystal clear” that the woman set fire to a sofa and some cushions with the intent to kill, fully aware that one of the victims was totally dependent and could not escape.
The jury will remain incommunicado this Tuesday
Following the reading of the final reports of all parties, the jury will receive the object of the verdict on Tuesday, after which it will remain incommunicado until a decision is reached.
A jury trial for a deadly fire
The trial, which has been held since last week in the Provincial Court, analyzes the responsibility of the defendant in the fire that occurred in a house where two elderly people she was taking care of were sleeping. One of them, given her high dependency and lack of mobility, could not leave the property and died in the flames.
