The future of the cab and the creation of an area of joint provision between all municipalities and the Consell de Ibiza as a formula to unify the cab service in Ibiza have disappeared from the text of the Law on Control of the Influx of Vehicles on the Island of Ibiza for Tourism Sustainability. Thus, the opinion approved in committee and will be approved on Tuesday by the Plenary of the Parliament, has not taken into account the amendments that had registered at least the PP with the intention that the future Consortium for Mobility of Ibiza also assume the role of governing body of the commonwealth. The only two references to the cab sector in the text are limited to generalities without any practical consequences.

Quite the opposite, as La Voz de Ibiza advanced, of the sense of the amendments presented by the PP and that were the next step in the unification of the cab service to which the municipalities of the island had given the go-ahead. Thus it has been eliminated that the Consortium that will see the light with the publication of the text of the law to be approved today in the Parliament that “expressly” is responsible for “what refers to the management of the area of joint provision of passenger transport in tourist vehicles.
Cab Law
The way for the Mobility Consortium to assume the competences of the future joint service area is the Transport Law of 2014, which in turn is modified by the Taxi Law approved in February of this year. In this text, the conditions that a joint service area must have and the mechanisms for its creation are established. The text establishes that “the Consortium may also assume other functions related to mobility in the territorial scope of the island of Ibiza, especially for the fulfillment of the purposes and competences provided for in Law 4/2014, of June 20, on land transport and sustainable mobility”.
