The provincial head of Traffic, Fernando Alonso, has warned that the long waits to take the driving license exam in the Balearic Islands are not due to the lack of examiners, but to the fact that many applicants present themselves without the proper preparation. As he explained, if the students attended the practical exam with the necessary level to pass, “there would be no delays” and the current resources would be enough to meet all the demand.
Alonso said this in statements to Cadena SER, where he pointed directly to the driving schools that offer ‘low-cost’ formulas to get the license “in record time”. The problem, he pointed out, is that they jump on the bandwagon of offers to compete with each other, but then the students arrive without being ready and must repeat the test several times.
“A funnel effect” on exams
The provincial head of the DGT argues that this accumulation of applicants repeating exams generates a “funnel effect” that slows down the system and causes discomfort among those who are prepared to pass. Thus, he said, the exams agenda collapses and this affects everyone.
As for the situation of the Traffic office in Ibiza, Alonso has assured that currently all the positions are covered, although he recognizes that it is a temporary balance. As soon as a new transfer contest is called, difficulties will appear again because many civil servants prefer destinations with a lower cost of living, he concluded.
