Agents of the National Police have arrested in Ibiza two men aged 18 and 35, both of Algerian origin, as alleged perpetrators of a violent attack that occurred in the early hours of February 29 in a port area of the island.
One of the detainees is charged with felony battery and obstruction of justice, while the other faces charges of battery and robbery with violence.
An assault in retaliation for testifying in a trial
The aggression occurred after one of the detainees, recently released on bail pending trial for skippering a patera, identified the victim in the port of Ibiza and hit her with a strong punchwhile accusing her of being a “snitch”.
When the victim fell to the ground, the other assailant took the opportunity to strike more blows and snatch the victim’s cell phone before fleeing the scene.
The attack was not an isolated event: the victim had testified in the case against one of the aggressors, which makes the aggression linked to an attempt of retaliation and obstruction of justice.
They tried to flee, but were arrested
Following the victim’s complaint, agents from the Unit Against Immigration Networks and Documentary Falsification (UCRIF) in Ibiza initiated an investigation that led to the suspects being located shortly after the attack.
Both were trying to leave the island bound for Barcelona when they were intercepted by the National Police at the port of Ibiza and arrested before they could embark.
After completing the police formalities, the detainees were handed over to the corresponding court, which will determine their legal status in the next few days.
