An 18-year-old Algerian national was arrested on November 25 in Playa de Palma after being caught sleeping in a stolen car parked in front of a police station.
The unusual event occurred at around 6:35 am, when police officers detected the presence of the vehicle, whose inappropriate location attracted attention, as reported by Mallorca Diario.
On approaching the car, the agents found that a man was sleeping inside, so they proceeded to identify him. After carrying out the checks, it was confirmed that the car had a recent theft report.
He alleged that he found the car unlocked
The young man claimed that he had found the car unlocked and with the key in the ignition, and that he had simply decided to get in to sleep. However, several clues pointed in another direction: the engine was still warm, the keys were still in the ignition, and the vehicle was not there minutes before, suggesting that he drove it to the scene.
In addition, the police found that he did not have a driver’s license, for which he was also charged with an offense against road safety.
At the time of the search, the agents found among his belongings a screwdriver, a rubber glove and a mask, objects that could be related to criminal activities.
Once transferred to the police premises, the young man caused damage to the facilities after repeatedly hitting the door of a cell with his head, for which he was also charged with a minor offense of damage.
