The general coordinator of Izquierda Unida (IU) in the Balearic Islands, Juanjo Martínez, will officially cease in the next plenary session of the City Council of Palma from his position as a member of the board of directors of the EMT after allegations of alleged sexual abuse in an Instagram account.
Martínez holds this position on behalf of Podemos, which has withdrawn its confidence in view of the reported facts, as reported by his councilor in Cort, Lucía Muñoz.
The mayor explained on Tuesday that, after learning of the allegations, her party decided last week to immediately dismiss Martinez, a procedure that will be raised this Wednesday before the Governing Board of Cort.
Muñoz has stressed that Martinez is not a member of Podemos, but of IU of the Balearic Islands, and that she herself contacted these women last week to offer all the support to the complainants in this case.
The Instagram account ‘Abusos_Balears’ has published several anonymous testimonies denouncing alleged abuses by a leftist politician, without specifying his identity, whom they describe as a sexual “predator” and who they denounce is protected by his party.
Martinez’s surprise
Juanjo Martínez, has assured that he has had no knowledge of having been dismissed from the EMT board of directors and has been “surprised”.
Martínez has pointed out that he has not received from the spokesperson of Podemos in the City Council of Palma, Lucía Muñoz, who delegated him in the EMT “neither a call nor a message nor has he been explained why yes or why no”.
Martinez has spoken out in this way after being singled out for anonymous denunciations in a social network account that denounces sexual abuse by a left-wing politician from the Balearic Islands.
The EUIB coordinator has avoided making political or legal assessments before speaking to a lawyer.
