The president of the Consell de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, has listed a series of challenges for the island in 2025, to which he hopes to respond “with dialogue and willingness to reach consensus”. He did so in his Christmas speech, broadcast on YouTube and recorded from the Phoenician settlement of sa Caleta, where Marí is on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Ibiza as a World Heritage Site.
Housing, sustainability, public transport, tourist intrusion and immigration were the main themes of the speech of the president of the Consell insular and aspects in which, he admitted, there is much to be done. “The difficulties in accessing housing, the challenges generated by the overexploitation of the island’s water resources, the efficient management of waste or the saturation at specific times in natural areas and on the island’s roads, require a firm intervention that responds to the claims and concerns of its people,” said Marí. “We are aware of this and, therefore, from the Consell Insular we will make every effort to address these concerns,” he added. Marí has pointed out that they will work “with dialogue and will of consensus, promoting a great pact for the social, environmental and economic sustainability of Ibiza”. Also that from his presidency will seek to “ensure attention to the most vulnerable people and groups, minors, people with dependency, athletes, young people and the elderly”. In another order, Marí has promised: “We will continue to double our efforts to fight against intrusion and against those who come to Ibiza to take advantage”. And he pointed out that they will focus their “claims on getting priority attention to control the migratory route from Algeria, which is causing the constant arrival of boats to the island and the consequent saturation of health care services”. On the other hand, the president of the Consell has highlighted that the year that is about to begin “will see the birth of the new bus service contract, which will improve public transport and will begin to develop the law regulating the entry of vehicles on the island”. “Just 25 years ago, Ibiza became part of the prestigious list of World Heritage Sites. A historic milestone that reminds us of the importance of valuing and preserving our heritage and our history as the basis of our future. I hope that together we make possible an unforgettable Christmas and a joyful and very profitable New Year for all”, he closed his message.
