Daniele Freddio, an Italian living in Ibiza, was away from the island on December 7, the day after his 44th birthday, when he received a phone call: he was told that the container house he owned that was resting in San Carlos, near the road to Can Curreu, near the public schools, had disappeared.
Since then, almost two months later, Freddio has made little progress in the search for his container. In fact, he shuffles different hypotheses: he believes that it could have been bought by someone in Ibiza, but that it could also have been moved outside the Pitiusa island and taken to Mallorca. “It was a total surprise, I would never have imagined that someone could take a container,” Freddio told La Voz de Ibiza. According to what he was told by neighbors in the area as a result of the noises they heard that day, the theft would have occurred between 15:00 and 17:00 on that Saturday, December 7, in broad daylight. Of course, like Freddio, nobody suspected that it was a robbery and came to ask what was going on.
Chronology
What happened next? A friend of Freddio’s went to the Civil Guard in Santa Eulària and made the formal complaint, for which he presented the invoice for the container. “A week later I called the Guardia Civil and got no information.” Then, Freddio opted to share the case on networks, in the hope that his post would spread and be seen by a presumed buyer of the stolen container-house. An asset that, he claims, has a value of between 20 and 25 thousand dollars. His first post was on January 17. He says that, from there, he received some clues that led him nowhere. “I received news and photos of a container that the Civil Guard of San Antonio had supposedly found, but that had nothing to do with mine,” he says. On January 30, he went back to the Civil Guard to find out what was new. They told him that they had begun to investigate the theft, although he criticizes the passivity of the investigation. “They have limited themselves to asking if there were cameras in the area, and there weren’t,” he complains. Now, he is pinning his hopes that his posts on networks will lead him to the container. “My greatest hope is that when the news spreads, if someone has bought the container, they will know it is stolen.” One of the hypotheses about which he cannot “give details”, and which arises from users who have seen his profile, is that the container has been taken away on a ferry. Something that at first also sounded crazy to him. “How can that be? You’re supposed to fill out paperwork to take it out on a shipping line,” he thought. Today, however, he says that he is investigating this lead. “I’m on it.” Along those lines, he has asked for help in a recent Facebook post. “Now I have a suspicion also that he was taken away by ferry. And I ask you (someone who is in the industry), is it possible to take a container by ferry without official documents? Is it possible that someone could have helped them? How could I check this possibility?”
An unused container
According to Freddio told La Voz de Ibiza, the container in question was in San Carlos since June, on the land of an acquaintance. Until now, he was using it as a warehouse, and he was analyzing what future use he would give it. “I had to move it in February and one option was to sell it, since one of my activities, although not the main one, is to sell containers”, explained Freddio, who is dedicated to the rental of pleasure boats.
