These are the two bets of the Consell de Ibiza in tourism in the short term, as expressed by its representatives in recent hours during the World Travel Market (WTM), which is held in London. The president of the Consell, Vicent Marí, has reiterated his intention to combat illegal tourist rentals with the help of funds from the ecotasa requested to the Government of the Balearic Islands. Specifically, the Consell requested 22 million euros from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) for the next three years. This contribution, which Marí considered “necessary“, will be used for each City Council to reinforce its police staff and create specific departments to combat intrusiveness. “There will be a before and after in the sector,” said Marí from London in statements to the Periódico de Ibiza. The president of the Consell insular has been confident that the Govern will deliver the funds: “From the Balearic Government support innovative and important projects; sure we will have the funding we deserve“. According to Marí, this funding will be approved on Friday.
A week ago, the fight against illegal tourist rentals was one of the central themes of the round table of the X Congress of Tourist Housing of Ibiza, organized by the Association of Holiday Tourist Housing of Ibiza and Formentera (AVAT). On that occasion, the incorporation of urbanistic norms to regulate the tourist practice was valued.
Vehicle limitation
On the other hand, Marí pointed out that businessmen from the tourism sector gathered at the WTF have shown their interest in pleasantly surprised when the Consell told them about the plans to regulate vehicles on the island next season.
