The owner of a boat anchored in the bay of Portmany rescued this Saturday morning an injured turtle floating near the pontoons of the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni (CNSA).
After locating the animal in an obviously weakened state, the man picked it up and transported it to the club’s gas station, where he handed it over to members of the CNSA team. The workers immediately wrapped the turtle in wet towels and alerted the relevant authorities.

As explained by the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni in its social networks, the 112 emergency service notified the Palma Aquarium, the organization in charge of attending to marine species requiring medical assistance in the Balearic Islands. The turtle, baptized as Elo by the athletes and people in charge of the Sports Area who found it, had a bleeding cut on one of its flippers caused by a fishing net in which it had been entangled.
Professionals from the Consorcio de Recuperación de la Fauna de las Islas Baleares (COFID) will be in charge of transferring Elo to the facilities of the Palma Aquarium, where she will receive specialized veterinary care. “She will soon be taken to Palma; let’s see if we manage to recover her”, says a member of the CNSA team in the images of the rescue.
Club Nàutic Sant Antoni has expressed its wish that Elo can fully recover and return to the sea as soon as possible.
