The Local Police of Sant Antoni has carried out the dismantling of an illegal settlement in the area of sa Talaia, one of the most emblematic natural areas of the municipality. This operation was carried out in coordination with the municipal cleaning service UTE Portmany and the Department of Environment, marking a new effort in the fight against unauthorized settlements that pose environmental and forest fire risks. The operation began with a previous work of detection and location, in which a drone was used to inspect the terrain. Thanks to this technology, the settlement was identified, which allowed the eviction to be planned efficiently. During the intervention, the agents found a tent, clothes and garbage bags. In total, more than 100 kilos of waste were removed, although at the time of dismantling no person was located at the site. The use of drones, a key tool in this type of operation, has allowed the authorities to access areas that are difficult to locate and to act with greater precision. According to municipal sources, these interventions are part of an ongoing surveillance and cleanup plan that seeks to protect the municipality’s natural spaces against threats of contamination and possible fires.
A recurring environmental problem
Illegal settlements, besides having a negative visual and environmental impact, represent a serious danger of forest fires in areas such as sa Talaia, especially in times of drought. The City Council has pointed out the importance of keeping these areas free of waste and unauthorized camping to ensure the safety of the environment and citizens. The council has asked for the collaboration of citizens to report any suspicious activity in protected areas. Also, it has been recalled that municipal services, such as the Department of Environment and UTE Portmany, are committed to the preservation of natural areas and perform regular checks to maintain the environmental balance.
