Next Tuesday, December 17, the Balearic Parliament will hold a session full of political and social content, which will address key issues such as the new decrees of the Balearic Government, the repeal of the law of democratic memory, and other debates of relevance to the Balearic Islands.
Government decrees: administrative simplification and flood zones
In the session, the new decrees of the Govern on administrative simplification and the correction of the 34 amendments of Vox approved by mistake of the PP will be submitted for debate and validation. These measures include restrictions in flood zones, such as the prohibition of new constructions and legalizations, and regulations on renovation works in existing buildings in these areas. The spokesman of the Govern, Antoni Costa, has highlighted that the decree guarantees that the houses out of management continue under this classification, although it is allowed to carry out specific reforms for safety or public health reasons. Also, the owners will have to inform about the location in flood zone in case of sale, an unprecedented measure in the Balearic Islands.
Law on democratic memory: a debate with opposing positions
Another key point will be the vote on the repeal of the law of democratic memory, an issue that has generated divisions within the parliamentary arc. According to the agreements reached between the PP and the left-wing parties, the repeal will not prosper, maintaining the current regulation. From the left, the PSIB and MĆS have celebrated this agreement as a triumph of democratic coexistence, while Vox has criticized the PP for “betraying” their voters by agreeing with the opposition. The socialist spokesman, Iago Negueruela, has pointed out that these agreements mark “a new political time” in the Balearic Islands, while LluĆs Apesteguia, of MĆS per Mallorca, has asked the PP to act more responsibly in future debates.
Other topics in the plenary session
In addition to the decrees and the law of democratic memory, the session will include the withdrawal of the 2025 autonomic budgets, debates on sustainability, climate change and the political crisis in Formentera. An interpellation on trade policy and a motion on the effects of climate change on the primary sector will also be presented. The plenary will begin with the session of control to the Govern at 10:00 am and is expected to be a marathon day.
