The motion of censure that could change the balance of power in Parliament
Next December 27, the motion of censure against Cordoba will be voted in the Consell de Formentera. According to Costa, this situation could alter the balance of power in the Balearic Parliament, as President Prohens would go from having 26 to 25 deputies, equalizing the seats of the left-wing opposition. “This shows that the PP has allowed Vox and its toxic policies to infect the institutions, and now they are paying the price,” stressed the Socialist deputy. The PSOE, for its part, has promised to act with “responsibility” to ensure that the rights of the citizens of Formentera are protected, despite the political chaos. Costa recalled that his party has been firm in rejecting the erratic policies of Vox and ensuring that crucial issues, such as the law of democratic memory, are not eliminated in the Balearics.
The defense of the Govern and internal tensions
For her part, the Balearic Minister of the Presidency, Antonia Estarellas, came out in defense of the Govern, highlighting the investments made in Formentera, including 20 million for water infrastructure, improvements in schools and the creation of a new 061 base. Estarellas also advocated for “maximum stability” in the Consell de Formentera and downplayed the opposition’s criticisms, noting that “if the PSOE had an easy solution, they could have applied it a year ago.” However, tensions within the PP itself have also been evident. The resignation of the party president in Formentera, José Alcaraz, and the appointment of a management team to lead the PP on the island, reflect the internal problems that aggravate the political crisis.
