The Balearic Islands is the third autonomous community with the highest number of people living in rentingwith 41.9%, according to a study by Be Casa based on a survey.
Also, in the islands 41.9% of the citizens surveyed live in rented accommodation, while the rest opt for other forms of housing, such as property, which remains the majority. However, the inclination towards renting presents “clear differences” generational and geographical, according to Be Casa in a press release on Monday. Among those who rent, the profile of young people under 35 years old stands out, a group that sees renting as“a more accessible option compared to buying“. Likewise, they point out that young people adapt to a dynamic and high demand market, but often “conditioned by economic and supply barriers”. In addition, the majority of the inhabitants of the Balearic Islands (53.3%) choose to live in apartments or urbanizations, compared to 46.7% who prefer villas or detached houses. According to them, the choice of housing also reflects a trend towards urban areas and large municipalities, where the rental offer is wider and more varied. Among other issues, 51.6% of those surveyed prefer the periphery of the cities of the archipelago rather than the center. In contrast, 35.5% of those surveyed prefer to live in city centers. This preference, they specify, is more marked in younger people, although it is also notable in people who tend to have higher incomes and prioritize being close to urban activities, leisure and services. In addition to location, other aspects valued by more than 70% of the sample are spaces with natural light and outdoor areas, such as terraces and green areas, exceeding 60% of the national average. On the other hand, 67.7% value having a parking space when renting or buying a home, above the national average of 63%. Likewise, 42.9% of those surveyed prefer the rental price to include all expenses, an option more highly valued among young people. However, only 6.9% of those surveyed who rent have all expenses included in their monthly bill. On a general level, 69.2% of those surveyed who live in the Islands and rent prefer a fully furnished apartment. Specifically, 38.5% indicate that they prefer a furnished apartment to avoid the expense of furniture and the hassle of moving, while 23.1% value the freedom of being able to move more easily. In addition, 7.7% say they prefer not to have to worry about decorating. On the other hand, 30.8% of respondents prefer an unfurnished apartment. People between the ages of 45 and 65 tend to opt for unfurnished apartments. They are also the group that most values services and spaces such as parking, green areas, a terrace, security, community and building staff.
