In addition to the conspicuous absence of representatives of the Balearic Government in the Extraordinary Plenary this Friday that has consecrated as the new president of the Consell Insular to Óscar Portas of Compromís, the Balearic PP has issued a statement in which it disavows the motion of censure and opens the door to sanction its councilors who voted in favor of the proposal presented by Gent per Formentera and PSOE.
In this regard, the Popular Party of the Balearic Islands said it “regrets that it has not been able to redirect the situation to maintain the absolute majority voted by citizens in the elections of May 28, 2023 in the Consell de Formentera, and that there has finally been the motion of censure against the president of the Consell”. In addition, they emphasize that “during the last year they have appealed to the responsibility of all to ensure the stability and governability of Formentera and have worked, always with respect for the autonomy of the coalition Sa Unió, to try to redirect the situation in search of an agreement with the members of the island government team to continue with the policies of change that the people of Formentera asked for at the polls”. Without any criticism towards Llorenç Córdoba -who is also a deputy in the Parliament- and warning that the censure motion did not have his support, the PP criticizes that “unfortunately personal differences have been put before any possibility of agreement”. “The regional leadership trusts that the new president can continue working on the policies of change that won the elections and not conditioned by the left”, they point out.
Possible sanctions?
The Balearic PP also opened the door to sanctions against the four councilors who voted in favor by warning that “.the management bodies of the Partido Popular will evaluate the possible internal consequences of the motion of censure”.
For their part, they clarified that “will continue working both from the Govern de les Illes Balears and from the Parliament to comply with their agreements signed at the beginning of the legislature with the deputy for Formentera, Llorenç Córdoba, always for the benefit of the citizens of Formentera”.
