The fight against intrusiveness both in transport and in the rental of illegal housing has become the main topic of the meeting of the Consell de Coordinación Pitiuso that brings together all the mayors of the island and representatives of the various local police of all municipalities.
The meeting was held last Friday at the Consell Insular de Ibiza and was chaired by the general director of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, and the island director of Intrusiveness, Enrique Gómez Bastida, with the participation of Violeta Rodríguez, director of the EBAP (Balearic School of Public Administration).
There they discussed the “establishment and protocols already agreed on the mechanisms of collaboration between the administrations, both Balearic, insular and municipal, to intensify the fight against intrusion in transport and illegal housing,” they detailed. In this regard, they recalled that the Mayors’ Council has already agreed on several proposals aimed at “involving the municipalities of the island in the fight against intrusiveness through a protocol that was signed last July with the aim of having the local police in the fight against tourist apartments, the authority closest to the citizen and that can go to a complaint in the shortest possible time”. Now, in coordination with the Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior of the Balearic Government, it has been proposed the creation of a technical support team for the implementation of a project that will involve the participation of the Institute of Public Safety (ISPIB) to develop protocols and appropriate training, to be conducted through the EBAP (Balearic School of Public Administration) so that local police can act properly in the fight against intrusion with standard operating procedures.
In this meeting, the relevance of the problem to be addressed was highlighted and the commitment of the municipalities and their local police in the fight against the supply of illegal tourist housing was ratified. In addition, the different experiences that have already been lived in this fight in the different municipalities were presented in order to address a common way of working, so that a unitary response is given as an island and as a tourist destination.
