A man has suffered serious injuries this morning as a result of a fire in the municipality of Santa Eulària, where a building with more than 30 people had to be evacuated.
The residents of the building at 29 des Riu street lived tense moments this Tuesday due to a fire declared on the fourth floor of a building in front of the Riomar Hotel. The event, which occurred around 06:00 hours, forced the eviction of between 30 and 40 people residing in the affected block.
Just over three hours later, the neighbors were able to return to their homes. Meanwhile, the City Council of Santa Eulària has reported that, apart from the affected house, firefighters have recommended to the tenants of the apartment below not to go out on the balcony for safety.
The fire has left a balance of two injured, one of them in serious condition. According to 061, it is a 38-year-old man with severe burns who has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Can Misses hospital.
From the Health Area have detailed that the victim could be stabilized and will be transferred to the Burn Unit of the Hospital La Paz in Madrid in “critical condition”.
In addition, about twenty people, including 18 residents and two Civil Guard officers, were treated by the medical team for smoke inhalation.
The operation deployed to respond to the emergency has involved the participation of three units of the Local Police of Santa Eulària, along with the head of service and the team of attestations, as well as six members of the Fire Department of Ibiza, a corporal, a non-commissioned officer and personnel of the Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support units.
At the moment, firefighters continue to work on extinguishing the fire and the work of ventilation of the affected property. The Santa Eulària Town Hall has informed that efforts are focused on securing the area and ensuring the safety of residents.
