Experimental Group, the company that manages the Montesol Experimental hotel in Ibiza, is facing a fine of a fine of 2 million euros for different infractions detected in the Menorca Experimental, the most relevant being the construction of 9 swimming pools that had passed the environmental procedures as ponds for the management of rainwater. The Consortium for the Protection of Urban Planning Legality in Rural Land of Menorca has opened this month a file to the agritourism inaugurated in 2019 in the estate of Sant LlorenƧ (Alaior), and has established a proposed penalty of 500,000 euros for the developer, the builder, the construction manager and the architect for numerous works without permission, which go against the environmental impact statement issued by the extinct plenary of the Balearic Commission for the Environment. According to Menorca, the project documentation reported by the environmental agency states that only a swimming pool of 233 square meters and “ponds for the management of rainwater from roofs” are planned. However, a simple review of the promotional images on the Menorca Experimental website or a satellite view on Google Maps is enough to corroborate that these ponds are private pools reserved for the most luxurious rooms.
The inspectors of the public entity of urban regulation also detected a new entrance for vehicles, a road, a parking lot and more pavement than stipulated in the initial project. These irregularities have been revealed by the GOB. Founded in 2007, the company Experimental Group has cocktail bars and boutique hotels in different European cities such as Paris, London, Venice, Biarritz, Menorca, Ibiza, Cannes, Cotswolds, Verbier and Val-d’IsĆØre. She also owns a wine bar in New York, USA.
