An armed robbery in the heart of Ibiza has set off alarms this Thursday afternoon. A man with sunglasses and helmet in hand entered a currency exchange store in the Alhambra Gallery, in Vara de Rey, to threaten the staff and take an as yet unspecified amount of money.
A calculated theft in a crowded area
The robbery occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m., in an area frequented by locals and tourists. According to witnesses, the robber showed an unusual attitude upon entering the establishment. Minutes later, he pulled out a gun and demanded that the staff hand over the money. Although it has not yet been confirmed whether the gun was real, the event generated tension in the area. Once he had obtained his loot, the man quickly left the premises and escaped on a motorcycle, leaving behind concern among shopkeepers in the area.
Police alert and deployment
Witnesses reacted quickly and alerted 112, which mobilized National Police officers to the scene. The investigation is currently in the hands of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEF), which is working to identify the perpetrator of the robbery. Nearby security cameras are being analyzed and witness statements are being taken to clarify the details of the robbery and find the suspect’s whereabouts.
