At this morning’s press conference, Gent per Formentera and the Socialist Party have assumed the conclusions reached by the biased report of the Code of Ethics and Good Governance Commission, despite the omissions and biases exposed in the document that was presented in the plenary session of the Consell de Formentera.
Alejandra Ferrer, president of GxF referred to the series of irregularities raised on the 10 points investigated by the Commission:
- The recording by Mr. José Alcaraz Escandell of the conversation held with the President of the Consell Insular de Formentera, Mr. Lorenzo Córdoba Marí, on November 4, 2023.
- The request of the President of the Consell Insular, Mr. Lorenzo Córdoba Marí, for additional remuneration.
- Disrepute and lack of respect for the work of public officials of the Consell Insular de Formentera.
- Unjustified delay in the approval of the minutes of the March 25 meeting of the Board of Directors.
- Leaks of documents and files to the media.
- Lack of communication and respect between Mr. President and the councilors.
- Resignation/cessation of members of the government team and continuity in the use of computer equipment and media.
- Appointment to a position with a potential conflict of interest.
- The existence of secret pre-electoral agreements.
- Use of public resources for private or partisan purposes.
The commission is composed of the former notary of Formentera, Javier González Granado; a technician of Litoral who asked to be transferred to avoid Córdoba, Lidia Serrano Tur; Neus Costa, a retired teacher; and just the councilor of GxF, José Marí Mayans.
“Shattering report”
“It is an absolutely devastating report that makes very clear the situation in which the Consell de Formentera finds itself. It evidences not only clear misconduct, but also others that could be investigated in greater depth,” Ferrer said. “For example, talk of recordings and the obvious violation of respect for privacy -this has come out in all the media and we are all aware-, the continuity in the use of computer equipment, that is, the embezzlement by people of the government team who resigned or resigned from office and continued to use the equipment for a long time. It also points out the lack of communication and respect towards the president and between the councilors of the opposition, as well as towards the people, as usual, embarrassing the citizens of Formentera”, she listed. In addition, the president of GxF referred to “more serious situations. Public officials have been accused, among others, of irregularities, of favored treatment, of refusal to execute entrusted tasks, of boycott, of paralyzing matters, of exceeding their functions, calling into question their professionalism, impartiality and lack of defense of the public interest. In some cases,names and surnames of these persons have even been mentioned”.
Competition under suspicion
Ferrer also justified the actions in the contest under suspicion of the contest under suspicion of chiringuitos by stating that “there has been an unjustified delay by the president in the approval of the minutes of the Governing Committee, the minutes in which the concession of the kiosks was to be approved, jeopardizing the entire procedure.” He also said that “there have been leaks of documents and files to the media that should never have been made public, jeopardizing the procedure with partial and, above all, interested leaks. We could talk about writings of workers of the Coast and the Primary Sector, drafts of the Governing Board, legal reports and other documents”. These documents, advanced exclusively by La Voz de Ibiza, have revealed the flagrant irregularities in the contest under suspicion. Ferrer added that “there have also been appointments of public officials with potential conflict of interest for having been involved and have been presented to procedures such as, for example, the concession of kiosks. In addition, public material has been used for private or partisan purposes through the Consell’s own press service”.
Pre-electoral agreements
In addition, the president of Gent per Formentera considered that “one of the issues that we consider most serious, and that also involves electoral fraud, is the deception of all citizens with the existence of pre-electoral agreements”.“The existence of these agreements has been ratified by both parties: both sa Unió and the president himself have recognized their existence. This is clearly one of the reasons that have originated this crisis and the confrontation and struggle for power between the president and Mr. Alcaraz, who above all general interest have destroyed the Consell to achieve their particular interests,” he said. Taking the report at its word, Ferrer quoted: “There has been a violation of integrity, impartiality and subjective disinterest in relation to respect, responsibility, institutional loyalty, transparency and sustainability”.
