The president of the Consell Insular de Formentera, Llorenç Cordoba, has issued a statement this afternoon after confirming the motion of censure presented by Gent per Formentera, PSOE and Sa Unió to try to overthrow him and has stated that the proposal seeks to cover up the alleged acts of corruption that have occurred in recent years.
In this regard, he said that “it is very sad that they want to make a motion of censure to try to cover up the alleged corruption that has occurred in recent years in the Consell”. In any case, he said that this objective will not be met since “the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor is already investigating all the irregularities through the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard“. This means, the president pointed out, that “sooner or later, and whether I am president or not, everything will come to light and the corresponding responsibilities will be clarified”.
Pressure on the Balearic PP
Cordoba, meanwhile, has wielded a sort of pressure on the Balearic PP to prevent its councillors from supporting the censure motion.
In this regard, he recalled that this decision taken by the ‘popular’ of the smaller pitiusa yielding to the demands of the left-wing groups do not conform to the negotiations he has held in recent months with the Balearic Popular Party. “It does not depend on me whether a motion is carried out or not, but I did receive the support of the leadership of the Balearic PP and they guaranteed me that no one in the party would participate in a motion of censure against me. I imagine that if the Popular councilors of Formentera go against the guidelines set by their party they must abide by the possible consequences or disciplinary sanctions that may be applied to them,” he said. In this line, he analyzed that in the event that their party membership is withdrawn, which is one of the assumptions that could be applied from the PP Balearic, could cause the situation that the councilors of the Popular Party become not attached, so that legally could not be part of a Board of Governors or be vice presidents. In the communiqué it is also detailed that they could not receive delegations of functions by the presidency. “In this situation, only three councilors (those of Compromís) would be eligible to form the Governing Board, not reaching the minimum of four required,” the statement says. “What can not be understood in any way is that the right hand over the power of the Consell de Formentera to the left,” insisted the president, “who is the one who has said who has to resign and who should preside over the Consell. Of course, the political lines will also be marked by the PSOE and GxF.” “The left has avoided governing in this legislature because it is aware of the irregularities and the brown spots they left in previous years, but they have known how to take control, through Sa Unió, without appearing to be responsible,” Cordoba maintained. And he concluded: “I keep wondering what interests are behind all these movements that are not understood from a political point of view or the general interest of Formentera”.
