Thursday afternoon will be marked by strong winds in Ibiza and Formentera. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) warned of rough seas on the islands, with winds that could reach 90 km / h and waves up to four meters. That said: almost at noon the alert went from orange to yellow, unlike what happens in Menorca, where it remained orange.
Winds and waves in Ibiza and Formentera
According to AEMET, from noon on Thursday until Friday afternoon there will be in the Pitiusas maximum gusts of 70 km / h., with west wind turning northwest. But in the case of the capes could exceed 90 km / h. Waves of 3 to 4 meters are also forecast. In Menorca, where the orange alert is still in force, the waves are expected to be between 4 and 5 meters, although waves of up to 10 meters high are not ruled out in the east of the island. During the early hours of Friday morning, the gusts will be especially intense, affecting both the sea and the most exposed areas of the islands. Based on these forecasts, precautionary measures have been taken throughout the archipelago.
National Alert
Twelve autonomous communities are on alert due to the forecast of very strong winds, which will reach 100 kilometers per hour in some places, intense waves, snowfalls or important rains, according to the information of the State Meteorological Agency. In addition to the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, the orange alert is highlighted in the Valencian Community, with the forecast of wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour in the province of CastellĆ³n. The rest of the weather warnings activated for today by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) are of “yellow” level (risk) and affect the communities of Andalusia (for strong waves in Almeria); Aragon (for strong winds and snowfall in the Pyrenees); Asturias (for strong waves and snowfall at high altitudes); Baleares (strong winds and waves); Cantabria (waves); or Castilla y LeĆ³n (for snowfall at high altitudes). The AEMET has denied however through its social networks that has launched any “high alert” due to the arrival of a dana, and has specified that during the weekend this meteorological phenomenon can bring heavy showers to points of Andalusia and the Canary Islands, but has insisted that “not all danas cause torrential rains”.
