The firefighter plugged by the leadership of Gent per Formentera (GxF) in the Consell de Formentera under the mandate of Jaume Ferrer and for which the former president will sit in the dock along with the previous leadership of the island formation has sent a surrealistic letter to the editorial staff of La Voz de Ibiza in which he presents himself as a victim and tries to discredit the information published by this media with tangential statements on unpublished aspects.
Thus, he assures that the news published in La Voz de Ibiza about the favorable treatment he received, accredited in a sentence of the contentious-administrative court and which will now be judged in criminal proceedings, violate “by illegitimate interference with my rights to honor, image and personal privacy” and that “are manifestly inaccurate (without saying in what point or aspect they are in his opinion)” and that “allude to me directly, in that they link me to an alleged and unproven mafia network on the island of Formentera and to judicial proceedings in which I have not been a party”. The argument to support such statements is most surreal. And is that the fireman plugged by the previous leadership of GxF ensures at all times that his father, the ethical councilor of GxF at present and in the past mandate, José Marí Mayans, was not a councilor at the time when the plugging took place. Something that has never been published by this media and that is strictly true.
The plugged-in fireman’s version
Thus, he reports that
- “I started working as a part-time collaborating firefighter for the Consell Insular de Formentera on April 1, 2014, five years before the appointment of my father, José Marí Mayans as councilor.”
- “Similarly, the judgment handed down in the court proceedings referred to in the published articles (…) was issued on March 20, 2017, two years before my father’s appointment as councilor.”
- “In the same vein, my appointment as a firefighter as interim labor staff took place on May 1, 2019 and, therefore, before the holding of the elections as a result of which my father, José Marí Mayans, was appointed councilor in June 2019.”
- “I currently exercise the position as a firefighter as a civil servant since July 4, 2024 and, therefore, more than a year after the termination of my father as councilor (of the government team, since he is currently still councilor, an aspect that is obviated in the writing)”
- “I have not been a party to the judicial and administrative proceedings referred to in the aforementioned articles.”
- “I have no links whatsoever with any mafia on the island of Formentera.”
La Voz de Ibiza ratifies all the points that has been published to date on the case of the firefighter plugged in relation to facts starring an organized group (GxF) that tries to defend their interests without too many scruples, one of the meanings of the word mafia, according to the RAE. A judicial sentence of the contentious-administrative courts proved that the Consell de Formentera prejudiced a candidate to blatantly benefit Carlos Marí Mayans, who was not excluded from the job vacancies created to fill five positions despite the fact that he did not meet the conditions in terms of age and the ability to get the required truck license in time and form. At the time of his appointment, Marí Mayans did not have a C driving license, which was a prerequisite. Nor could he process it in four months, taking into account that he was 19 years old and to access that category of driving license it is necessary to be older than 21. Not content with this, from the Consell de Formentera they paralyzed the hiring to prevent Rubén Castellar Lozano to be hired ahead of Carlos Marí Mayans. As a result of these mafia-like practices, the firefighter who denounced was compensated with 80,000 euros, the amount he should have been paid if the Consell had not favored Marí Mayans and illegally harmed Castellar Lozano.
GxF’s top management in the dock
For all these reasons, the following GxF politicians and former politicians will sit in the dock on April 28, 29 and 30, 2025:
- Jaume Ferrer Ribas, former president of the Consell Insular de Formentera at the time of the events.
- Sonia Cardona Ferrer, former first vice-president and councilor of Culture, Education and Heritage at the time of the events, who is the current secretary general of GxF, whose family is also the owner of El Caminito, which benefited from a controversial express license with irregularities.
- Silvia Tur Ribasformer councilor of Environment, Industry and Energy, who was also a deputy in the Parliament and who lost the last elections to the candidacy headed by the still president, Llorenç Córdoba. She started the present mandate as councilor of the opposition until she presented her resignation.
- Isidor Torres Mayans, former manager of the Consell de Formentera accused at the time of hiring the architectural firm of his brother-in-law for the preparation of two urban planning reports on La Savina and Sant Ferran. He is the son of former mayor Isidor Torres.
The first three will sit in the dock for being allegedly responsible for direct civil liability for crimes of prevarication, while Torres Mayans will be held accountable for the crime of administrative malfeasance and false documentation. Carlos Marí Mayans is the son of the current GxF councilor, José Marí Mayans, who is also a member of the Code of Ethics and Good Governance Commission that issued a biased report that both his political group and the PSOE used to promote and justify the motion of censure against the president of the Consell, Llorenç Córdoba. In 2012, when the irregular appointment of his son took place, the GxF councilor was director of the La Caixa office in Sant Francesc Xavier.
