This Monday, January 20, work begins on the long-awaited second phase of the Santa Eulària Conference Center, a key infrastructure for the development of MICE(Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) tourism in Ibiza. The project, which has been a priority on the local agenda for years, represents a crucial step towards diversifying the island’s tourism offer and extending the season.
A long awaited work to transform Santa Eulària
Awarded to the joint venture formed by Tecopsa and Hermanos Parrot, the works have a budget of 33.78 million euros and a completion period of 30 months. This phase will begin with the construction of a subway parking lot which will occupy a total surface area of 21,654.57 m² distributed over two floors.
The second floor will combine 31 spaces for motorcycles, 278 for cars (including 14 accessible) and loading and unloading areas for trailers and vans, while the second floor will be dedicated exclusively to vehicle parking. During the construction period, the existing parking lot will be closed to vehicular traffic, which could cause occasional inconveniences in the area.
A versatile and modern space for events
The design of the Palacio de Congresos not only focuses on functionality, but also on versatility. One of the highlights will be an open-plan space of 2,500 m², adaptable to different configurations according to the needs of the organizers. In addition, it will have meeting rooms of different sizes and an assembly hall with capacity for 1,000 people, designed to host conferences, fairs and large-scale events. With this infrastructure, Santa Eulària reinforces its capacity to compete in the international events sector, consolidating itself as an ideal destination for congresses in a unique environment.
European-backed financing
The project has obtained significant financial backing thanks to European Union aid, through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and NextGenerationEU funds, which provided 6.5 million euros. In addition, it has a 10 million euro allocation from the Balearic Government’s Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), with new applications underway to complete the funding.
A boost for off-season tourism
The implementation of this infrastructure not only promises benefits for the local economy, but also reinforces the objective of deseasonalizing tourism in Ibiza. The Convention Center is positioned as an essential tool for attracting visitors during the quieter months, promoting a constant flow of tourists interested in the MICE segment and diversifying the island’s offer.
