The life of Carl Cox
Carl Cox, born July 29, 1962 in Oldham, England, is a British DJ and producer considered one of the most influential figures in the history of electronic music. With a career spanning more than four decades, his impact on house, techno and other genres has been fundamental to the evolution of the global scene.
He began his career as a DJ in the early 1980s, quickly becoming known for his ability to mix records with three decks, an uncommon technique at the time. His love of disco, soul and funk led him to explore emerging electronic sounds, culminating in his transition to house and techno at the end of the decade. With the arrival of the “Summer of Love” in 1988, Carl Cox became a key figure in the UK acid house movement, earning the nickname “The Three Deck Wizard”.
Your connection to Ibiza
However, an essential chapter of his career is intimately linked to the island of Ibiza, a place where Carl Cox has not only left his mark, but has also helped define its musical culture. Carl Cox’s relationship with Ibiza began in the early 90s, when the island was already known as an epicenter for electronic music lovers.
It was in Ibiza where Cox found a platform to bring his sound to a global audience, performing at iconic clubs such as Amnesia, Pacha and Privilege. However, it was at Space Ibiza where he achieved legendary status. In 2001, he began his residency “Carl Cox at Space“which quickly became one of the most popular and respected parties on the island.
For 15 years, every Tuesday in summer, Space was transformed into a temple of techno under Cox’s direction. His ability to mix genres and his charisma on stage attracted thousands of attendees from all over the world, consolidating his place as one of the pillars of Ibiza’s club culture.
The closure of Space Ibiza in 2016 marked the end of an era for Carl Cox and the island. During those 15 years, he was instrumental in establishing Space as one of the biggest clubs in the world. However, far from saying goodbye, the DJ continued to explore new opportunities here, hosting events at other iconic venues such as DC-10 and Ushuaïa.
