The Consell de Formenterathrough its Department of Social Welfare, has categorically rejected the accusations recently published about the Residencia de Mayores des Brolls, defending that the services provided by the center comply with regulations and ensure quality care for users. The institution has qualified as unfounded the criticisms made by the UGT, which denounced alleged shortcomings in the management of the center.
Ongoing negotiations and work schedules
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Cristina Costa, has clarified that the schedules of social and health workers remain intact and that any changes will be made only after reaching a consensus agreement with the staff and unions. According to Costa, the possible modifications seek to ensure that the center can cope with unexpected leaves of absence, thus reducing pressure at times of high demand. Costa also pointed out that the current model, which contemplates 12-hour shifts, can increase the risk of errors due to accumulated fatigue. For this reason, the restructuring of the schedules aims to improve the distribution of staff, while maintaining the quality of care at times of peak workload.
Activities and personalized attention for residents
Regarding the claims that residents would be “parked” in a room, Costa has been blunt in pointing out that these accusations do not reflect reality. As he explained, residents participate in activities designed by a specialized technical team, adapted to their needs and preferences. She also pointed out that the users recently went on an outing to the Lighthouse of La Mola, as part of the initiatives to promote their welfare and socialization. The councilor also recalled the thematic activities carried out during the Christmas holidays, whose program was available to residents and their families. These actions are part of the center’s commitment to offer comprehensive care that goes beyond basic care.
Denials about UGT’s denunciations
Among the accusations that the Conselleria considers most serious is the alleged performance of injections by health care assistants, functions that correspond exclusively to nursing staff. Costa stressed that this practice has not occurred and that any intervention of this type follows the established protocols, under the supervision of nurses and with the collaboration of 061 in case of emergencies. He also denied that the center has reduced staff to the point of affecting the quality of care. According to the Conselleria, the nursing home currently has a team of 14 social-health care assistants to attend to 18 users, far exceeding the legal minimums established.
A call for calm and cooperation
Cristina Costa regretted that this information generates uncertainty among the families of users and reiterated the commitment of the Consell de Formentera with the continuous improvement of services. In addition, she called to avoid speculation that does not reflect the reality of the center.
