The Guardia Civil and Salvamento Marítimo have rescued 16 immigrants south of Formentera aboard the first patera to arrive in the Balearic Islands this 2026.
The intervention took place at 16.35 hours this Friday at 0.5 miles south of Formentera, as reported by the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands.
A total of 16 people of Maghrebi origin have been rescued in what has been the first patera to reach the archipelago so far this year.
Last year closed with a record 7,31 migrants arriving in the Islands, 24.5% more than in 2024, aboard around 400 precarious vessels.
As it was announced in La Voz de IbizaLa Voz de Ibiza, Formentera was again the most critical point of entry of the pitiusas, with 167 pateras (identical to the number registered last year) and 2,791 people arrived in 2025.
The number of immigrants is slightly higher than in 2024 as a whole, when 2,670 immigrants were registered.
