The migratory phenomenon in patera maintains its pressure on the coasts of the Balearic Islands, with a strong impact on Ibiza and Formentera. The two islands received during 2025 a total of 3,217 people arriving in irregular boats, which means an increase of 16.45% over the previous year, according to official data from the Government Delegation to which had access La Voz de Ibiza.
Formentera is once again the most critical point of entry of the pitiusas, with 167 pateras (identical to the number registered last year) and 2,791 people arriving in 2025. The number of immigrants is slightly lower than in 2024 as a whole, when 2,670 immigrants were registered.
In the case of Ibiza, the official registry indicates the arrival of 27 boats and 426 immigrants, representing a growth of 23.12% compared to 2024, when 346 people were counted in 22 boats.
The combined figure for the Pitiusas (3,217 people) represents 44.2% of the total number of immigrants who entered the Balearic Islands by sea in 2025.
Balearic Islands surpassed 7,200 irregular immigrants in one year
Overall, the Balearic Islands received 397 boats with 7,279 immigrants throughout the year, compared to the 5,846 registered in 2024.
This represents an overall increase of 24.51% in vessels and 24.5% in persons, consolidating the upward trend of the Algerian migratory route.
Mallorca continues to lead the statistics with 4,051 immigrants and 202 boats, although the percentage increase is more moderate(43.14 %) compared to other islands.
In the case of Menorca, only one patera was registered with 11 people, which confirms its status as a marginal area on this route.
Formentera quadruples the data of 2022
Formentera, with similar figures in terms of the number of boats with respect to 2024(167 in both years), has once again increased the number of people rescued, from 2,670 to 2,791, which represents an increase of 4.53%.
Since 2022, when 700 arrivals were recorded, the island has quadrupled the volume of irregular maritime immigration, consolidating its position as one of the main entry points along the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast.
Origin of immigrants in 2025
Most of the immigrants intercepted this year are of sub-Saharan (49.77%) and North African (48.58%) origin, with a testimonial presence of people of Asian origin (0.37%).
