The City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu has taken a step forward in the management of community cats with the presentation of its Integral Feline Management Plan, a document that seeks to organize, coordinate and improve the actions related to cat colonies in the municipality. The initiative was presented at a round table that brought together public institutions, environmental organizations and animal associations, in a meeting that highlighted the importance of addressing this issue from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The Plan foresees an active collaboration between the local administration, volunteers and qualified personnel, acting under municipal direction. Its methodology is based on a prior diagnosis of each situation, applying a prioritization system to optimize resources and ensure that interventions are efficient, coordinated and respectful of current regulations.
During the presentation, the City Council opened a period of participation and asked the actors involved to provide proposals for improvement. Until January 15, any interested party may submit suggestions or recommendations through the Town Hall’s Registry Office.
The animal welfare table was attended by a wide institutional and social representation: Sant Josep and Sant Antoni town councils, the Consell d’Eivissa, the Direcció General de Medi Natural, the Environmental Agents service, the Conselleria de Salut, the Local Police of Santa Eulària, the Fundació Natura Parc, the SEPRONA of the Guardia Civil, as well as environmental organizations such as GEN-GOB, SEO Birdlife, Amics de la Terra and the animal associations Care4cats and the Asociación de Colonias Felinas de Eivissa.
With this Plan, Santa Eulària des Riu is positioned as one of the pioneer municipalities in Ibiza in the integral and responsible management of community cats, betting on a model that combines animal welfare, environmental protection and citizen coexistence.
