The Eivissa Town Hall has announced the suspension of the Es Baluards race, scheduled for this weekend, as a preventive measure in view of the yellow alert decreed by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Balearic Islands. The decision also implies that the traffic and parking restrictions that had been communicated in the municipal proclamation issued this Friday are also without effect.
According to the information provided by the Conselleria de Presidencia, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation, the Technical Advisory Committee of the METEOBAL Plan has met this Friday morning to analyze the weather situation and the updated forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The models point to the arrival of an active cold front, accompanied by strong winds, which will affect the entire archipelago during the day on Saturday.
A cold front enters through Ibiza and advances towards the rest of the archipelago.
According to the AEMET, the front already affecting the peninsula will approach the Balearic Islands early this morning, entering first by Ibiza before moving towards Mallorca and Menorca. The forecast indicates that the phenomenon will intensify between 12:00 and 13:00 hours on Saturday, with rainfall accompanied by storms, strong gusts of wind and coastal phenomena.
In Mallorca, the effects will be especially concentrated in the Sierra de Tramuntana, as well as in the North and Northeast areas of the island, while in Menorca significant gusts of wind and a worsening of the sea conditions are also expected.
Authorities recommend extreme caution in the coming hours and avoid outdoor or coastal activities while the alert remains active.
