Raúl Tribaldos, a 22-year-old Ibizan resident of the Playa d’en Bossa area, has been identified as the fatal victim of the traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday on Avenida de Sant Joan, one of the main arteries in the center of Ibiza.
The accident, which took place in the middle of the afternoon, also left a young man, 20 years old, who was traveling as a passenger, seriously injured.
A few minutes after the accident, several young friends of the deceased approached the scene, visibly affected. In the area there were scenes of great pain, with signs of consternation and disbelief for the loss of the young man.
A version circulating at the scene suggests that the motorcyclist may have been pulling a wheelie at the time of the accident. This has not been officially confirmed and remains under police investigation.
From the City Council of Vila have confirmed that “the Municipal Police is reviewing cameras and conducting the appropriate proceedings to investigate the possible causes of the accident”.
Another motorist told La Voz de Ibiza that “I was just driving behind them and I saw everything, it was very traumatic”.
“The motorcycle was coming at high speed passing the cars, it passed me and suddenly further ahead another car was passing and then it braked suddenly, the motorcycle got on one wheel as it was going too fast and braked suddenly and there they fell,” he recounted.
These witnesses were the first to call the ambulance and the police, they said.
The crash, without involvement of other vehicles
As confirmed by the Ibiza Local Police to La Voz de Ibizathe accident took place around 18.00 hours on Tuesday. The first hypothesis is that no other vehicle was involved and that the driver of the motorcycle fell to the ground, hitting his head violently against the asphalt.
Raúl Tribaldos died on the spot, despite the efforts of the paramedics who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. Meanwhile, his companion was taken in serious condition to the Can Misses Hospital, where he remained hospitalized until after midnight.
Extensive emergency deployment and traffic closures
Four ambulances were sent to the scene of the accident, both from SAMU 061 and the Polyclinic Group, as well as members of the Local Police.
The accident took place near the Eroski supermarket, an area of heavy traffic, which forced the traffic to be regulated for several minutes.
Sant Joan Avenue, where the tragic incident occurred, is one of the busiest roads in the city and was particularly busy due to the Christmas period.
The investigation is still open to clarify the exact causes of the accident, while the island mourns the loss of a young resident of Ibiza.
