The plenary session of the Ibiza Town Council has initially approved the municipal budget for 2026, which amounts to 98.9 million euros, representing an increase of 8.3% over the previous year’s accounts. The agreement has been adopted this Thursday, December 18, during a plenary session in which the government team has defended accounts marked by zero indebtedness, the reinforcement of the social area and the increase of investments.
The first deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Resources, Gema Marí, stressed that, for the third consecutive year, the Social Area will again experience an increase of 10%, reaching 7.4 million euros. According to her, the aim of the budget is to “lay a solid foundation to meet the future challenges of the city” and consolidate key areas such as social welfare, safety, cleanliness and infrastructure improvement.
One of the differential elements of the 2026 accounts is that the City Council of Ibiza will reach zero debt, after the cancellation of the long-term loan formalized in 2024 to finance investments. This situation will allow the Consistory not to have to allocate items for amortization or financial expenses, which, according to Marí, is the result of the economic management of the current government team.
In addition, for the first time, the allocation of 4 million euros from the Capital Law, thanks to the commitment of the Balearic Government. These funds will be allocated to current expenditure to finance essential services such as street cleaning, maintenance of parks and gardens, public safety and maintenance of public roads.
Investments increase by 51
The 2026 budget also stands out for its increased investment capacity. The containment of current expenditure has made it possible to increase the City Council’s own funds and, together with the co-financing of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, the Balearic Government and the European EDIL funds, to reach a total figure of 11.6 million euros in investments, which is 51% more than in 2025.

In addition, through the Eivissa World Heritage Consortium, there are plans to adapt site UA-2-3 for the construction of at least five homes, and an allocation of 326,852 euros is earmarked to complete the construction of three homes and three welfare resources in the Plaza de sa Drassaneta, which is scheduled for completion in February 2026.
As for income, Marí has warned of a foreseeable reduction of 3.9% in the participation in State taxes, subject to the approval of the General State Budget. The forecast for 2026 is 20.9 million euros, compared to the 21.8 million of the previous year, a circumstance that the councilor attributed to the lack of new state accounts.
Labor improvements and reinforcement of the local police force
The municipal budget also contemplates improvements for the City Council staff and the reinforcement of citizen security. In this regard, an allocation of
